Love Is In The Air

Happy Valentine''s Day, 2024!  ❤️❤️

Today is a wonderful day to celebrate each other, as well as those couples who came before us.  Cards, candy, flowers, and gifts are presented today to honor that special "Valentine" who makes our lives so special.  So, to all of you out there, I hope you're enjoying a special day of happiness and love.

I also thought you might enjoy a story from our family that doesn't concern Valentine's Day per se; but it does have to do with love and marriage; and I think it's humorous.  My Uncle Ashton and my Dad, Clyde, decided that they were going to get married on the same day -- June 4, 1939.  Well, they made all these plans, but Grandma Coppock hadn't yet heard about this!

"There is no way I'm losing both my boys on the same day," she replied.  Keep in mind that this has been passed down through the years, so who knows if in fact it happened just like that?  However, knowing my grandmother, I'm sure she had the final say in the matter.  Whatever was said, they were NOT married on the same day, but 2 weeks apart!

Clyde Coppock and Helen Kern were married on June 4, 1939, at the First Baptist Church in Le Mars, Iowa.  Of course, Ashton was his Best Man.

Upon returning from their honeymoon, they settled in to an apartment in Le Mars.  Two weeks later, there was another Coppock wedding in Le Mars.  This time, it was Ashton Coppock marrying Dorothy Ahern at the St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars.  Naturally, Clyde was Ashton's Best Man.  So, Grandma got her wish, albeit 2 weeks apart; and both couples were happy.

Many of you know that 2023 was a very special year for Kathy and I.  Not only did we celebrate 80 years, but we also celebrated our 60th wedding anniversary on April 13th.  David and our grandkids hosted a terrific party for us, with nearly 75 attendees.  We were so appreciative!

This was extra special for me, as I remember helping Grandma and Grandpa Coppock celebrate their 60th anniversary in Le Mars on August 24, 1974.  That was the last anniversary they celebrated as a couple, as Grandpa died that next May.

Again, a very Happy Valentine's Day to all of you.  I hope you have all had a very special day!
